Arrive slowly in Lhasa

Yamdrok Lake, Karola Glacier and Shigatse
Cross Gampala Pass for the first broad view of Yamdrok Lake, then continue beneath Nyenchen Khangsar and share lunch with a local family. Pause at Karola Glacier and the Simila prayer flags before passing through Gyantse on the way to Shigatse.
Across the high passes to Everest
Travel over Gyatsola Pass and stop at Gawula Pass for a panorama of the Himalayan range when weather allows. Continue to Rongbuk and Everest Base Camp, where visibility can change quickly; the day stays flexible, and the basic tent accommodation operates only when seasonal conditions permit.
Rongbuk and a weather-dependent route west
Begin at Rongbuk Monastery before turning away from Everest. When weather and road conditions permit, continue through Dinggye to the Xilin viewpoint and Sakya Monastery; otherwise return through Gyawula Pass and Tingri, skipping Dinggye and Sakya so the day follows the clearest safe route.
Tashilhunpo and the river road to Lhasa
Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, observing the scale of its courtyards and the rhythms of a major living monastery. Return to Lhasa along the Yarlung Tsangpo valley, then use any remaining evening for a slow final walk around Barkhor rather than adding another long excursion.
Departure from Lhasa
